I am often presented with this condition in my Salon and clients ask what it is and how they can improve on it.
It is called Poikiloderma of Civatte. The exact cause is unknown, but some contributing factors are: -Fair skin -Accumulated sun exposure -Photosensitising components of cosmetics and toiletries, especially perfumes -Hormonal factors How do we treat it? There is no specific medical treatment for this condition. Avoiding sun exposure and the correct use of sunscreens is essential.High level SPF's are not always the best answer, as some may contain too many chemicals. Avoid all perfumes on or near the affected area, including those in soap. Exfoliants (non-abrasive) including long term use of alpha hydroxy-acids and/or tretinoin. We will advise you on what and what not to use! Intense pulsed light (IPL) treatments are the best way to reduce the telangiectasia and pigmentation. Ask about our Facial treatments and programs for this. For more information, call us or mail us on 082 578 9022 sublimeskinandbody@telkomsa.net Cheryl Pastor Sublime Skin and Body
